Bear and the Warm Honey Bread

For ages 3–5 · 4 min read

In a snug little house under the hill lived a bear named Bruno. The fire was low and soft. The room smelled of warm bread. Bruno sat in his big chair and yawned a slow, happy yawn.

Bruno the bear yawns sleepily in his big chair by the low fire, with warm bread nearby.

Then something small happened. The bread on the table was still warm. It was round and golden and soft. Bruno broke off a piece. He tasted a little drop of honey. Mmm. It was so good.

Bruno looked at all the bread. It was too much for one bear. "This is too good to keep," he whispered. "I will share it with my friends."

So Bruno wrapped the warm bread in a soft cloth. He stepped out into the quiet night. The moon was a soft round light above the trees. The grass was cool. His paws made no sound at all.

He walked along the gentle path. He passed the little stream that hummed a sleepy song. He passed the tall, slow trees. A small owl blinked down at him. Bruno waved a soft paw.

First he came to the otter, curled by the water. "I made warm bread," said Bruno. He gave her a piece. The otter smiled and nibbled. "Thank you, Bruno," she said. "Come and rest with me."

Next he found the little hedgehog under a leaf. The hedgehog had been cold. Bruno gave her warm bread and a warm hug. Soon her cheeks were rosy and warm.

Then came the deer, with her tired, slow eyes. Bruno shared the last big piece. "Now everyone is fed," he said softly. His heart felt warm and full.

The friends sat close together. They did not need many words. They watched the moon and ate the soft, sweet bread. Sharing had made the whole night warm.

Bruno and his little friends sit close together under the round moon, sharing soft bread in the quiet night.

Little by little, the friends grew sleepy. The otter tucked into the grass. The hedgehog curled into a tiny ball. The deer rested her head down low. "Goodnight," they whispered. "Goodnight, Bruno."

Bruno walked home along the quiet path. The moon went with him, soft and slow. The trees swayed just a little. His paws felt heavy now. His eyes felt heavy too.

Back in his snug little house, the fire was a warm orange glow. Bruno wrapped himself in his soft blanket. He gave one more slow, happy yawn.

He thought of his friends, full and warm under the moon. He thought of the soft, sweet bread. His chest rose and fell, slow and easy.

Hush now, hush now. The fire was warm. The night was kind. Sharing had filled every heart.

Bruno's eyes closed. His breathing grew slow. The little house was quiet and warm.

Goodnight, Bruno. Goodnight, dear one. Sleep soft and warm, all night long.
